White Rose Manor Supervised Independent and Transitional Living Program
The Supervised Independent Living program serves youth ages 16-21, offering an opportunity to develop confidence, dignity, and the skills to function independently. Experiential living skills are used on a daily basis to strengthen existing skills and develop new skills. Areas of focus include money management and consumer awareness, food management, personal appearance, health issues, housekeeping, transportation planning, educational and career planning, job seeking skills, job maintenance skills, emergency and safety skills, knowledge of community resources, interpersonal skills, legal skills, leisure activities, housing arrangements and spirituality.
Outcome Focused Group Home Level 1
Each client is automatically enrolled in Level 1 services upon entering placement. Level 1 services are for clients evaluated to be in need of only one therapeutic service such as Trauma and Abuse therapy or Drug and Alcohol counseling.
Outcome Focused Group Home Level 2
Residents that present with multiple service needs in the areas of drug and alcohol abuse, trauma and abuse/sexual abuse or pregnancy/parenting education will receive services as a Level 2 designation. A recommendation for Level 2 services will be made by the 30th day of placement, following the completion of a comprehensive assessment.
Overview of Transitional Living Program
Outcome Focused Group Home
The Transitional Living Program serves youth ages 17-21, offering an opportunity to develop the personal, vocational, and tangible resources necessary to begin independent young adulthood. Established independent living skills are used on a daily basis to participate in a variety of activities and, pursuant to client need, support services intended to maximize client ability to function successfully within the various systems that exist in society. Primary areas of emphasis include employment, education, and personal development via participation in enrichment and/or support service activities. Residents that demonstrate a need to participate in a support service (as a means of mitigating/ameliorating risk evidenced in behavior) will be expected to connect with support services on their own – as they will have to do in their independent young adulthood. Program staff/admin provide guidance as requested by the resident.
Eligibility for placement is commensurate with client ability to function in the program milieu with minimal need for external supervision and behavioral management. Residents must also demonstrate motivation and ability to utilize available and appropriate support resources if/when they experience or perceive an increase in personal risk factors. Lastly, residents must be eligible for enrollment in an educational program, including the public school system, alternative education, higher education or GED preparation classes; and have consistently utilized appropriate social skills and coping mechanisms to maintain appropriate interaction with their peers, staff, and the community.
Pursuant to DHS regulations, clients must also have completed a training program and demonstrated competency in the areas of; health, general safety, and fire safety practices, money management, and transportation skills in order to be eligible for placement.
Residents are required to seek, secure, and maintain gainful employment while in the program. Residents are also required to pay rent (15% of take home pay). In addition, clients are responsible for the cost of personal items such as food, clothing, etc. It should be noted that “personal items” refers to that which is desired but not needed. Families United Network will, as part of the per diem, provide clothing allowances as well as grocery-specific debit cards, prepaid, to clients for purchasing needed food items to ensure they can meet their nutritional and dietary needs on an ongoing basis without relying on monies accrued through employment. Residents who are unable to secure employment will be required to complete 12 hours of community service on campus each month in order to fulfill their obligation to pay rent. The number of hours owed in community service was calculated according to the stipulations associated with a board extension. (12 hours = 15% of 80 hours per month.)
Residents are expected to open a savings account and demonstrate competency with regard to their money management, banking, saving, and so forth.
Residents will prepare for discharge by seeking employment, housing, and community support services in their chosen community following discharge.
