International Adoption - Nepal

Families United Network believes that the end of King Gyanendra’s tumultuous reign of Nepal, which lasted from October of 2002 until Parliament was reinstated in late April of 2006, will be beneficial to the needy children of this impoverished country.

The citizens of Nepal, home to the Himalayan Mountains among them Mount Everest and the world renowned Chitwan National Park, have a rich cultural heritage. Sadly, this land-locked country is among the poorest countries in the world.

At this time, many infants and young children have been abandoned by their families due to poverty and are living in orphanages. It is the hope of Families United Network that Nepal’s new government, with assistance from its neighboring countries as well as countries around the world, will be successful in improving the lives of its approximately 28 million citizens.

We believe that until Nepal has the necessary resources to provide these abandoned infants and young children with the love and nurturing that all children require and deserve, we should pursue the establishment of an adoption program in Nepal. To date, Families United has developed alliances with two well respected adoption professionals in Nepal, and we have been notified that the new government of Nepal is rewriting its existing adoption laws and regulations. We continue to monitor these proceedings closely and look forward to accepting adoption applications for this program in 2007.
